Spring has sprung and for us, that means cold puddles and sticky wet mud. It also means sunshine and brown grass starting to turn green. It means children getting outside every chance they get! It means I can soon start getting in the garden again!
This fine spring day Jareth got creative and busy with some lumber left over from daddy’s projects. Amazing what this creative little guy comes up with!
Creativity is Messy:
I am always stumbling across messy project invented by this little guy. Projects made with cardboard boxes, glue, paper, string, empty milk jugs and any number of other things! This time the project mess was outside! Which I am totally happy with:)
Anyone else constantly finding crazy project messes all over the house? They seem to appear out of nowhere while you are busy with other things:)
Last Month Jareth busied himself making a mosquito trap on my kitchen counter. He used half a bottle of blue dawn dish soap, water, and an orange peel. He assured me that as soon as the mosquitos came out this would do the trick, . . . I was a bit skeptical:)
Oh and then there is the shopping bag he made with the local newspaper.
I think we managed to read that one before he transformed it into something useful!
When I am cleaning up the messes that abound through my children’s creativity sometimes I need to pause and be thankful.
- creativity + mess = inventiveness My children are crazy inventive:)
- They are actively entertaining themselves rather than passively with TV, Movies or video games!
- They are learning to clean up behind themselves. ( Yep, I don’t do it all for them)
- They are learning to be responsible adults. (They are not expecting or waiting for someone else to clean up behind them.)
- They are becoming creative thinkers and problem solvers which is totally one of my major goals in homeschooling.
Training them to clean up their own messes takes time and effort on my part. While I am going through the training process sometimes I have to let it go and be happy with a less than perfect job.
On the days when I’m going crazy with the messes everywhere, I need to to take a deep breath and remind myself of all the beautiful things to be thankful for. When I do that it puts all the little and big messes into perspective:)
On that note, I will wish you all a wonderful creative Monday:)
Lots of Love Twila
